The goal of settlement is to help immigrants to be able to participate fully in and contribute to the economic, social, cultural and political aspects of Canadian life.
Settlement Workers are the first to see clients, giving them in-depth information about Canadian systems and culture and linking them through first language service to other services at NSMS and in the wider community. NSMS also works with community agencies and schools to make services more accessible to North Shore newcomers.
Settlement Workers offer services in English, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Farsi and Filipino, and will connect clients with settlement services in other languages as necessary. We offer individual services as well as group information sessions.
Family Programs
NSMS offers a broad range of programming for all generations of immigrants. After the initial period of setting up home many newcomers want to further explore both the challenges they and their families have experienced in the immigration process and the new challenges they face in becoming integrated into their communities.
Overall, the goals of our family programs are to support immigrants in their life stage, to connect newcomers to their North Shore community, and to strengthen and build family bonds and communication. Our family programs are individually funded and are delivered in partnership with many other agencies and projects.
